My opinion about The Hunger Games movie

In my opinion, I think the movie,The Hunger Games is very entertaining movie, but I was surprised the differences between the book and the movie, The Hunger Games. I thought that this movie was made to entertain many people who haven’t read the book and are children over 13 years old. First, I read most of the book so I knew the story before I watched the movie. In the movie, many details and my favorite scenes were omitted and shortened. For instance, Katniss couldn’t reach the source of water and looked for it for the few days in the book. She felt very thirsty and she couldn’t move. However, in the movie, Katniss found the source quickly and she didn’t worry about water. Second, there were new important characters and new scenes in the movie. I was very interested in that. President Snow and Gamemaker Seneca weren’t important characters in the book, but in the movie, they lead the story. This change is very interesting one. I felt that producer made the movie to make people easily understand. Third, in the movie, my favorite scene was when Rue and Katniss cooperated with each other. Katniss gave food to Rue and also, she made a grave for Rue and put flowers on her grave. The scene was a very impressive one. I cried so much. I think people strike a chord with the main character’s feelings in the scene. There are some differences, but I could enjoy the movie. If you have a chance, I recommend you to watch the movie. In addition, If you have a time to read the book, you had better to read before you watch the movie. You must enjoy the movie more.

Spring Break

I took part in a TAB-trip, which is a kind of a volunteer trip managed by Willamette University. The members were university students. TAB-trip has five groups. My group discussed the immigration issue and went to the Northwest of America. Thirteen students and one teacher traveled for a week during spring break.

We met at the chicken fountain at 5 a.m. on the first day of spring break. We rode in two vans and left for Washington. We could experience many types of volunteers and learn a lot about immigration issues. We met many immigrants. Most of them were Latinos from Mexico who came to seek a job. We planted a lot of trees at orchards with Latinos. It was very hard job. I couldn’t believe it that they worked at the job such long hours every day. Another day, we visited many houses to put the card on their houses’ doorknob. If people call the number on the card, Immigrants can work as a day worker. I learned that many immigrants don’t have a document and they group together because they fear to be repatriated. I was very glad to help with their job and work to give documents to them. Then, I could talk with Willamette University students all day. I had a very good experience.

POW WOW

I went to a pow wow which is a kind of Native American festival at Willamette University. I went there for seven hours. There were many people who wore many kinds of costumes and a big audience. Their costumes were so colorful, and they had some plumage of hawk on their head and back. The men looked so strong. In contrast the women looked so gorgeous. Some of them painted their faces black, white, or red. I have seen Native Americans in television or movies, but it was the first time to see real Native American costumes. These Native Americans are usually called American Indians. I have learned about American Indians a little bit. I know that many people and national law refused Indian rights in the past. So, I was so surprised that the traditions of many nations have kept being protected. Many Native American showed performances. The dance was stepping with swaying their hips and heads. Some people beat traditional drums. The place had a unique smell. I felt comfortable. Then, there were many shops in which people sold traditional things. I ate Native Indian food, some of it tacos and fried bread. They were so delicious. If I have a chance, I’d try to eat it again. I asked three Native Americans about their race, traditional, food, and costume. Their tribes are different who are Nez Perce, Cherrokee, and Pomo. I knew that Nez Perce had a tradition of making baskets, Cherrokee have eaten smoked salmon every day, Pomo wore a fancy shell, which is a kind of costume. I knew that each race has traditions, costumes, foods, and many others. I had a good time and experience. I could learn about Native American culture a little bit and also I’m interested in the culture. So I’d like to research the culture and want to know them a lot. If I have a chance, I want to take part in Native American festival.
